Heterogeneous System Design: Technologies and Design Challenges - Part 2

Prof. Giovanni De Micheli (EPFL, Switzerland)

Recorded 19 September 2012 in Lausanne, Vaud, Switzerland

Event: ntass 2012 - Nano-Tera/Artist Summer School 2012

Much of our economy and way of living will be affected by nanotechnologies in the decade to come and beyond. Mastering materials at the molecular level and their interaction with living matter opens up unforeseeable horizons. This talk deals with how we will conceive, design and use heterogeneous nanosystems, i.e., integrated systems exploiting the hybridization of current nanotechnologies. Whereas switching circuits and microelectronics have been the enablers of computer and communication systems, hybrid nanosystems have the potentials to realize innovative computational and sensing fabrics whose applications require broader hardware abstractions, extended software layers and with a much higher complexity level overall. This talk will present the technology and design challenges, as well as applications.
